Estate maps and their importance for the study of historical landscapes and serfdom towns
Tůmová, Martina ; Semotanová, Eva (advisor) ; Frajer, Jindřich (referee) ; Šantrůčková, Markéta (referee)
The dissertation deals with the knowledge and reconstruction of the historical landscape of the early to the upper modern period using cartographic sources, maps of the estates from the 18th and the first half of the 19th century, which have not been exploited so far. It seeks answers to the questions of what changes occurred in the landscape during this period and documents them, especially on the example of the serfdom towns in Bohemia. The dissertation is interdisciplinary in nature. It tries to contribute to research in historical geography and to fit thematically into the concept of studying historical landscapes (from identification and documentation to understanding the meanings of their transformations). However, it also uses the approaches of historical cartography in the research, analysis and processing of hitherto neglected cartographic sources - sources of information about the past. Attention in the study of historical landscapes and urban history has so far been paid rather to the younger period from the mid-19th century onwards, mainly because of the availability, mostly wider possibilities of processing the necessary historical sources (topographically more accurate old maps and plans of comparative character) and the accuracy of their narrative value. The older period up to the...
Changing in Place Identity of Two Working-Class Neighbourhoods in Kladno since the mid-20th Century: Podprůhon & Nové Kladno
Čermák, Adam ; Chromý, Pavel (advisor) ; Kučera, Zdeněk (referee)
The thesis focuses on the place identity of two working-class neighbourhoods in Kladno since the mid-20th century. It describes the historical development of all neighbourhoods in Kladno, but it analyses Podprůhon and Nové Kladno as prototypical examples. Although the two are close to each other, they have developed differently: Nové Kladno was transformed into a housing estate; Pod- průhon was left to its natural, gradual development. An essential part is a qualitative and quantita- tive research. It studies the people's relationship to both localities, the first impression of them, and whether the conclusions differ according to the respondents' ages. It exploits interviews with resi- dents and questionnaire survey with non-residents. The results are put in context with plans and artistic works, allowing for a detailed description of the identity of both localities. Nové Kladno has lost its identity due to its transformation and has not yet built a new one, while Podprůhon has re- tained its identity despite becoming an excluded locality in the 1980s. As there are many neigh- bourhoods with similar developments in Czechia since the mid-20th century, the interpretations from this thesis can be generalised as case studies of the industrial heritage transformations not only in Kladno. The mining heritage of the Jáchymov region as a dynamic sociocultural process
Jelen, Jakub ; Chromý, Pavel (advisor) ; Šantrůčková, Markéta (referee) ; Chrastina, Peter (referee)
The presented dissertation deals with the perception and methods of management of the mining heritage from the perspective of individual stakeholders, entities and interest groups involved in the process of its creation, inventory, interpretation, use, protection or reconstruction. At the same time, it discusses the ways of using the mining heritage, the benefits and risks of its presence in the territory or its connection to territorial identities. The general starting points of the research are based on a search and critical discussion of scientific literature and key geographical concepts (heritage, place, identity). In the first part, the thesis deals with the conceptualization of heritage in general, discussing various ways of defining and looking at heritage, its characteristics and properties, and also it discusses possible approaches to it. The thesis also brings different perspectives on classification of heritage and analysis of its individual phases, as the heritage is seen as a socio-cultural process conditioned by individual actors, entities and interest groups who enter and influence it at various stages. The thesis also deals with the ways heritage shapes and affects the environment in which it is located, including its inhabitants and visitors. After a general discussion, the thesis...
Landscape as a fixator of human memory - an example of the Hradec Králové battlefield from 1866
Kessler, Vojtěch ; Šrámek, J.
The relationship between man and the landscape in the 19th century is usually viewed through the prism of fundamental contemporary phenomena, i. e. primarily the industrial revolution, the construction and densening of the railway network and urbanization. The authors focus on a different level, namely the approach to the question how the landscape has changed due to the events of the war and the development of contemporary memory culture and historicism. An example of this is the scene of the largest battle of the 19th century in the Czech lands, the battlefield of the Prussian-Austrian war near Hradec Králové (Sadová). Using this example, they demonstrate the transformation of the former war field into a specific reverential and sepulchral locality and subsequently a monument area, whose existence survived not only the changes of the 20th century, but above all became an influential fixation of the 1866 war not only in the immediate region. However, according to their judgment, the landscape itself, which has not been fundamentally changed since the 19th century due to the heritage care, is an important factor in this reception.

The main objective of this work is to evaluate the extent to which the Great Depression has affected the development of the mining and metallurgical center in Central Bohemia, the territory of Kladno region and society in this area. For this reason, much of the work is devoted to the development of the area from the second half of the 19th century to the economic crisis. The Kladno region has developed and expanded rapidly to the surrounding landscape, as it has become dominantly industrial due to social changes due to its originally agricultural area. The economic crisis manifested itself in the Kladno region in 1932. The settlements ceased to penetrate the surrounding landscape and support the families of the unemployed from urban budgets. However, there was a problem with insufficient infrastructure and social care in front of Kladno municipalities. The economic recovery helped to prepare for the next world war. The Kladno industry began to...
Czech Provinces and their Development in the Historical Geographical Context
Marečková, Jitka ; Semotanová, Eva (advisor) ; Ebelová, Ivana (referee)
Regional administration in Bohemia originated already in the Middle Ages and has survived till these days as an basic constituent of the state administration. Cartographical material, especially maps of provinces, which has been so far rather neglected, is very interesting and important source for the cognition of the development of Czech provinces. These maps have been issued since the 18th century and especially in the earlier period had been widely used by general public. The only list of these documents "Soupis map českých zemí" compiled by František Roubík provides outdated and inconsistent informations. The primary aim of this work is to provide a more detailed list of these maps in the form of a catalog and bring more informations on the various creators and publishers of the maps.
